About NITAS

CompTIA's National Information Technology Apprenticeship System (NITAS) was developed in conjunction with the U. S. Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship. It is a comprehensive program that provides employers, training providers and IT workers with the tools and resources to get trained, certified and mentored within 7 IT career concentrations or job-roles:

  • IT Generalist
  • Networking & Infrastructure
  • Database
  • Help Desk
  • Project Management
  • Information Assurance and Security
  • Application Development

Employers, IT workers, Training Providers and their students register on-line in the NITAS system, and monitor/track their progress through the program, documenting the classes taken, certifications achieved and competencies that have been validated. The system validates skills through a unique coaching method in which senior level IT workers within a particular company are assigned as coaches to a number of lower-level IT workers (apprentices). Coaches monitor apprentice work on-the-job as the apprentices demonstrate the required skills/competencies. These apprentices and coaches utilize the system to check-off, confirm and validate the competencies.

When an apprentice has completed all the necessary classes, achieved the required certification and demonstrated the required list of competencies that have been validated by his or her coach, then the apprenticeship in that particular track is completed and a NITAS credential is issued to that apprentice.
